MARSEILLE AND SAN FRANCISCO, September 9, 2021 – Unistellar strengthens its commitment to bringing all of mankind facto-face with the wonders of the universe.
The New Astronomy disruptor announced today the release of Nocturne, a free app that offers you the chance to appreciate and photograph the breathtaking beauty of the night sky on your smartphone in glorious close-ups.
This entirely novel night-time photography experience is made possible by Unistellar’s smart and easy-to-use technology that applies dark sky proprietary image treatment algorithms to pictures taken on your smartphone.
“The beauty of the natural universe – including the night sky – only becomes apparent after sunset,” said Laurent Marfisi, CEO of Unistellar. “Our new Nocturne app, available exclusively on the iOS platform, allows absolutely each of us to examine for themselves the splendour of the night sky in fabulous detail.”
Once Nocturne (available free of charge in the Apple Store) is installed on your iPhone, capturing stunning images of the sky after dark could not be easier:
- Step 1: Identify a beautiful nightscape to photograph
- Step 2: Launch the Nocturne app
- Step 3: Stabilize your iPhone using a tripod or by resting your device on a solid surface
- Step 4: Take the picture
No additional settings are needed. It takes just a few minutes for the algorithms in the Nocturne app to do their work. When complete, the app automatically saves the picture in your gallery and asks if you want to keep your Nocturne moment.
Users are encouraged to share their experiences using the hashtag #NocturneMoment.

About Unistellar
Unistellar is the start-up behind the eVscope and the eVscope eQuinox, the world’s most powerful and simple-to-operate digital telescopes that bring the wonders of the universe to life in seconds—even in light-polluted urban settings. Thanks to a partnership with the SETI Institute, these game-changing consumer telescopes allow users to become citizen scientists and contribute to cutting-edge research on exoplanet transits, asteroid occultations, comets, and much more.
The Unistellar eVscope received a CES Innovation Award in 2018 in the Tech for a Better World category and was nominated for a SXSW 2019 Innovation Award. Nearly 5,000 Unistellar digital telescopes are now operating in Europe, Japan, and North America, and their users are participating in an unprecedented observing experience.
